This is a Peaceful Disagreement

3’ x 5’ Acrylic on Unstretched Canvas

This is a Peaceful Disagreement' speaks to not only the war on street art but also the roots of graffiti as an artform that is based on defiance of governmental structures that discriminate and disproportionally attack certain groups. By acting upon the reduction of the art form itself, it is in no way erasing the history of violence and classism that the artists often are fighting against. Art can be a peaceful way to expose government structures that are unjust to their people. Despite the medium, peaceful protests are often met with great brutality because it points out human rights violations and demands a change in the current institutions, but attacking the art that brings it to light will not fix the problems the system has pushed on its citizens. This is a peaceful disagreement, but people are hurting, so admit wrong and change; don’t make it a war.
